2022: an enchanting vintage!

  • 17 June 2024

The 2022 vintage saw early harvests, starting on 26 August and lasting for nearly three weeks in summery, stormy conditions, just before the rain and autumnal temperatures set in. This intense period allowed grapes to be harvested at exceptional quality and quantity levels, a rare combination that delighted the team following the less generous 2020 and 2021 vintages.

Everything ripened at the same time – both Côtes and both colours.

Despite difficult weather, especially heat and drought, the 2022 vintage was saved by favourable conditions that allowed a very healthy, generous grape harvest. The final pressings were in early October, marking the end of this harvest period.

Despite the scorching sun, the red grapes had developed medium, well-balanced skins encasing precious elements such as yeast, aromas, tannins and anthocyanins, promoting delicacy rather than extraction. Pressing, completed on 6 October, produced clear, bright juices.

The white grapes ripened in line with their red cousins, requiring our team to precisely manage the pressed juices. Investment in a new press bought us significant time and allowed us to manage the harvests more effectively.

Juice yields were lower than we expected, but the quality was indisputable, with colour extraction reminiscent of 2019. The wines are beautifully concentrated with expansive aromas and a dense structure, particularly offering up small red and black fruit notes with intense strawberry and raspberry touches for the Côte de Beaune wines. Le Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Bel Air stands out with its explosive nose.

After six or seven months in oak barrels, the wines were already revealing their personalities: balance supported by beautiful acidity, whilst retaining a welcome freshness thanks to the early harvests.

A sunny, hugely refined vintage that reflects the excellence of our wines. Take a look at the data sheets for each wine from this exceptional vintage!
